California, USA: Apple held their first event at the Steve Jobs theatre on September 12th taking the opportunity to introduce their two latest flagship phones, the 8 & X. Apple also introduced their latest wearable technology the Watch Series 3 and a 4K TV.
The iPhone 8 is available in 4.7 & 5.5 inch screens and introduces a new glass design. iPhone state the devices uses ‘the most durable glass ever in a smartphone, front and back’. (Apple, n.d.) The 8 is equipped with a 13-megapixel rear camera and 7-megapixel front camera and is available in 64GB or 256GB. The 8 uses the A11 Bionic CPU which Apple claim is the most powerful CPU ever in a smartphone. It is water and dust resistant and is the first iPhone model which enables wireless charging via the AirPower Mat.
The second phone unveiled at the event is the iPhone X celebrating 10 years of iPhone. The X’s design is an infinity screen, Apple confirm ‘our vision has always been to create an iPhone that is entirely screen. One so immersive the device itself disappears into the experience. And so intelligent it can respond to a tap, your voice, and even a glance. With iPhone X that vision is now a reality.” (Apple, n.d.) The screen is the first OLED screen which offers 1,000,000 to 1 contrast ratio ensuring sharp colours.
The device is 5.8 inches, has a 12-megapixel front facing camera & 7-megapixel front-facing camera. Similar to the 8 the X is available in 64GB and 256GB, uses the new durable glass design, is equipped with an A11 Bionic CPU and enables wireless charging. The X also introduces face ID allowing users to use face recognition unlock, pay and authenticate.
